HVIA’s Community Leadership Award recognises members who have engaged positively with the community.
The member may have implemented ongoing stakeholder relations, engaged with education in the community via training or open days, or has been involved in another activity (such as in-kind support for a charity) which highlights the proactivity of the heavy vehicle industry.
The 2019 award winner was NTI Australia for their MND Research Truck Restoration project.
As part of their ongoing mission to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) research, NTI decided to restore and raffle a vintage truck, enlisting support from existing key partners such as Royans Brisbane and Isuzu Trucks.
The truck was on display at the Brisbane Truck Show’s popular Plaza Terrace BBQ Bar, enabled by NTI’s partnership with HVIA, with the raffle draw on the final day.
This allowed thousands of ticket purchasers to see and touch the truck, talk with key people involved in the restoration, and learn more about MND and the research being done to find a cure.
Online content formed a key part of the community engagement strategy and proved to be highly successful. Videos, blogs, profiles and more were used to highlight key milestones of the restoration, highlight the individuals and businesses who gave their time and efforts to assist, and to outline exactly what would happen to the funds raised.
As a result of this engagement, new partners came on board to assist with ongoing MND research fundraising, including Isuzu Trucks and the V8 Supercars.
