New fact sheet explains the impending 3G network shutdown, the implications for members and the broader industry, and what actions need to be taken to ensure you’re not left in the lurch
HVIA has released a simple one-page fact sheet to help members and the wider industry prepare for the impeding shutdown of the 3G network.
Throughout 2023, HVIA has worked with members involved in vehicle telematics, communications and data ahead of the Australia-wide 3G network shutdown set to commence later this year.
It is hoped the new fact sheet will be circulated widely throughout the sectors of the industry who currently rely on telematics, to ensure that they take action now to avoid being negatively impacted by the shutdown.
Vodafone will commence its closure in late 2023, and Telstra and Optus in mid-2024. This means that all systems relying on the 3G network for communication are likely to experience limited function from those dates onwards. This includes vehicle telematics systems.
More information on the upcoming shutdown is available on the Vodafone, Telstra and Optus websites via the links below:
Earlier in the year, the changes were the focus of the ‘What’s new in telematics’ seminars co-presented by HVIA and Transport Certification Australia at the Brisbane Truck Show in May.
