Submission Deadline Extended For HV Standards Review

The National Transport Commission has extended the deadline for feedback into its review of the Heavy Vehicle (Vehicle Standards) National Regulation until Friday, June 21.

Through the HVIA, the NTC has requested members put forward any issues they have with the current regulation, which prescribes the vehicle standards with which a single heavy vehicle or heavy combination must comply for its use on a road.

The process forms part of the Commission’s periodic maintenance to ensure the standards remain contemporary, nationally consistent, efficient, effective and aligned with agreed policy.

Identified issues should be:

  • Minor – Amendments not involving a change of policy but may make the legislation clearer (amendments are in line with policy intent).
  • Technical – Amendments include the correction of minor errors, updating language, adding notes, improving syntax, omitting redundant provisions and other minor changes to update or improve the form of legislation.
  • Uncontroversial – Amendments within the dictionary definition of the term, and consistent with the term as expressed in Cabinet and Legislation handbooks of jurisdictions and the meaning as applied to amendments contained in Statute Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bills used in several jurisdictions.

HVIA invites members to complete the template form available here and submit it by email to Adam Ritzinger at a.ritzinger@hvia.asn.au, prior to COB Thursday, June 20.

Alternatively, contact Adam on 0437 901 669 to discuss the detail on any potential issue of interest.
