HVIA Seek Feedback On NSW Heavy Vehicle Access Policy

HVIA has prepared a draft response to the updated Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) Heavy Vehicle Access Policy – and is seeking feedback from members by next Tuesday May 28 so we can finalise our feedback before the deadline of May 31.

The TfNSW Heavy Vehicle Access Policy outlines a strategic approach to heavy vehicle access in NSW for state, regional and local roads.

The policy aims to support an efficient road freight network and is being refreshed to respond to changing markets, emerging vehicle technologies and the increasing freight task.

It sets out five policy pillars to enable a future focused freight network: agile and resilient networks; innovative vehicles; streamlined access; telematics and data; and strong partnerships.

The policy also sets out: proposed access priorities and Performance Based Standards (PBS) network opportunities; networks and access conditions for heavy vehicle classes; and examples of innovative vehicle design templates.

It will be of interest to trailer manufacturers, equipment suppliers, engineering/design service providers, telematics providers and everyone involved in Performance Based Standards.

HVIA is generally supportive of the approach outlined in the NSW draft policy but has made some direct recommendations and requested clarity on some areas.

The association has continuously advocated to TfNSW for improvements, including recently meeting with ministerial offices and members of the leadership team of TfNSW.

The draft response has been prepared based on a combination of HVIA’s previous comments on vehicle access and some targeted discussions with key members.

The draft response will be emailed to all members in the PBS technical reference group seeking feedback.

HVIA will also make the draft available to other members interested in providing feedback.

Please contact Greg Forbes at g.forbes@hvia.asn.au if you would like to review the draft.
