West Gate Tunnel Officially Opens

On the morning of Sunday, December 14, 2025, the West Gate Tunnel Project officially opened to traffic.

Freight Victoria held a one-hour industry webinar in late November to help facilitate the opening of Victoria’s newest road project, and have now released the presentation slidepack and key contact details.

The presentation covered the M4 West Gate Tunnel, the operation of the West Gate Tunnel Tollway, the rebuilt M1 West Gate Freeway, and the implementation of no-truck zones in Melbourne’s inner west. It can be downloaded here.

Freight Victoria also shared the following contact details for key aspects of the project, which are open for enquiries and feedback:

> Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority (VIDA) West Gate Tunnel Project – for project-related queries by phone:1800 105 105 or email wgtp-info@vida.vic.gov.au;

> Transurban and Linkt for Tolling and West Gate Tunnel operation queries by phone 1300 556 533, email keyaccountsmelb@linkt.com.au or visit linkt.com.au/westgatetunnel; and

The tunnel has also been added to national heavy vehicle access maps such as the NHVR’s National Network Map, which can be accessed here . It shows that a range of High Productivity Freight Vehicles (HPFVs), such as PBS Level 2 and 3 vehicles, and Higher Mass Limits (HML) vehicles, are able to access the tunnels.
