HVIA has welcomed the return of key Ministers and Shadow Ministers to their respective portfolios following the recent Federal Election.
Catherine King has been reappointed as Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government. King’s continued leadership provides valuable continuity for the heavy vehicle industry, particularly as we work together on critical issues such as infrastructure investment, freight productivity and the transition to net zero.
On the opposition side, Senator Bridget McKenzie (pictured above) continues as the Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development. McKenzie has demonstrated strong engagement with the sector, and her hands-on approach – including recently obtaining a heavy rigid truck licence – reflects her commitment to understanding the challenges and opportunities facing our industry.
On the energy front, Chris Bowen returns to the portfolio of Climate Change and Energy, while Andrew Giles remains in the Skills and Training portfolio. Across the benches, Dan Tehan has been appointed to the shadow portfolio of Energy and Emissions Reduction.
Scott Buchholz returns to the Parliament as Shadow Minister for Skills and Training. His previous work as Assistant Minister for Road Safety and Freight Transport has laid a strong foundation for initiatives such as truck driver apprenticeships, which are vital to addressing workforce shortages in our sector.
HVIA looks forward to continuing our constructive relationships with both government and opposition, and we have sent congratulatory letters to our key ministers and shadow minister.
We are eager to collaborate on policies that support a safe, sustainable and productive heavy vehicle industry, particularly in the context of Australia’s net-zero commitments.
Together, we can ensure that the heavy vehicle sector remains a cornerstone of Australia’s economy and a leader in innovation and efficiency.
