Chief Advocacy Officer Meets With Key Decision Makers

Last week Adele Lausberg, HVIA’s Chief Advocacy Officer, was in Canberra to meet with decision makers from across the political spectrum.

A productive discussion was had with long-time industry friend Senator Glen Sterle, who also expressed his love for HVIA’s new ROADBOSS Magazine.

A discussion with Shadow Minister for our industry, Senator Bridget McKenzie, pictured above, canvassed a variety of topics, including how important the industry is to Australia’s economy, how vitally important safety is, and the potential impact of the transition to net-zero on smaller operators, particularly around reporting on emissions.

HVIA also wants to publicly congratulate the Senator on her recent obtaining of her heavy vehicle licence.

HVIA will soon be appearing before the House of Representatives Parliamentary Inquiry into Electric Vehicles, and to this end Adele met with Dan Repacholi, the member for Hunter, NSW who sits on the committee. Dan has a background in our industry, and has previously attended HVIA’s Brisbane Truck Show.

Finally, a meeting was held with member 3M and Jerome Laxale, member for Bennelong.

3M’s main operation in Australia is located in the seat of Bennelong, and Richard Lord also attended the meeting. Points discussed included the transition to net-zero and safety – in particular the ability of conspicuity marking to dramatically increase visibility of trucks, making Australian road-users much safer.

While in Canberra, Adele also met with Richard Lindsay of the Canberra Institute of Technology, who is leading the Centre of Excellence in electric vehicles.

If members are interested in any of HVIA’s meetings with politicians and other relevant stakeholders, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

In addition, if you want to engage with your federal, state or local member, HVIA is happy to offer advice, and potentially join the meeting where relevant. Contact Adele at a.lausberg@hvia.asn.au.
