HVIA Progresses Powered Trailer Trial Plan

More than 40 stakeholders representing state and federal bodies from across Australia attended a special webinar this week that presented a direct opportunity to provide feedback on draft guidelines for on-road trials of powered trailers.

In early March, HVIA achieved a crucial milestone in its efforts to facilitate on-road trials of powered trailers, with the release of its draft guidelines to government stakeholders and wider industry for consultation.

HVIA advised that it would seek feedback on the draft up to COB Friday, May 2, 2025, with comments to be sent to Adam Ritzinger at a.ritzinger@hvia.asn.au, or Greg Forbes at g.forbes@hvia.asn.au.

HVIA Chief Technical Officer Adam Ritzinger hosted the webinar and says the level of engagement was very encouraging.

“We had over 40 attendees representing state and federal bodies from all over Australia,” he says. “The points raised by those present included safety, training, technology and overseas regulations, just to name a few,” he adds.

“It is clear that all stakeholders are aware of the opportunities that this technology presents and are ready to work with industry in positive ways to facilitate on-road trials.”

HVIA will review feedback received after the Brisbane Truck Show in May and will advise its working group members and external stakeholders of the next steps in the second-half of 2025.
