HVIA Finalises Response To PBS Review

Following extensive consultation with HVIA’s Performance Based Standards (PBS) working group in December 2025, HVIA has finalised its response to the NHVR’s high-speed PBS standards review.

The final draft was provided to HVIA’s working group earlier in the week, however a copy can be made available to any interested HVIA member. Please contact HVIA Chief Technical Officer Adam Ritzinger (a.ritzinger@hvia.asn.au) to discuss.

The three standards under review by the NHVR are Static Rollover Threshold (SRT), Rearward Amplification (RA), and High-Speed Transient Off-Tracking (HSTO). These standards are amongst the most complex of the 16 safety standards in the PBS scheme, as they focus on vehicle dynamic performance, and dynamic performance in high-speed manoeuvres.

The focus of the NHVR’s proposal is to slightly relax some of the performance requirements for vehicles participating in the scheme, provided they fit crucial safety technologies.

Information on the NHVR’s review can be found here, and information on earlier stages of the NHVR’s review, which focussed on other PBS measures, can be found here.

HVIA’s response was led by Chief Engineer Rachel Michaud, who is currently leading four of HVIA’s technical working groups, including the Performance Based Standards group.

Pending member feedback, HVIA will submit the review to the NHVR by COB Friday, January 23, 2026, and hence seeks all feedback to be received by noon on that day.
