Following strong and vocal technical advocacy from HVIA and its members, the Heavy Vehicle Services (HVS) team within Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA) announced last Friday that it had made the decision not to proceed with the roll coupling policy in its current form.
Instead, HVIA understands that MRWA will seek to establish a working group comprising industry, stakeholders and government bodies to explore alternative approaches to reducing heavy vehicle rollovers.
HVIA has offered to nominate for that working group, although no timeline has been set. HVIA will pursue that opportunity when it meets with MRWA staff in Perth this week.
In making the decision not to proceed, MRWA listed eight key issues that emerged from the feedback it received. All issues were captured in HVIA’s submission (available to download here), and it is encouraging to see broad alignment from all industry sectors on those topics.
