HVIA recently participated in the annual Hastings Deering Future Skills Council, an event that brings together leadership from various divisions within the organisation to address workforce development and innovation.
During the session, National Manager – Skills, Training and Workforce Development, Michael Rose, delivered a compelling presentation introducing the association and underscoring critical cross-sectoral priorities such as workforce training and upskilling for the future.
One of the key highlights of the event was the enthusiastic engagement around using data to tell the story of the apprentice workforce. HVIA, as the peak industry body, emphasised the importance of understanding and tackling the monumental challenges ahead, particularly in the areas of electrification and decarbonisation. These transformative shifts demand strategic collaboration and a forward-thinking approach across all sectors.
The presentation also highlighted the deep interconnection between the mining and heavy vehicle industries. HVIA demonstrated how technological advancements in one sector can significantly influence innovations in the other, fostering mutual growth and progress.
Kate Williams and Shane Whalley, Future Skills Portfolio Specialists, commended the collaborative spirit and contributions of HVIA.
“Over the past two years, we’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with Michael on our Future Skills Council. As a knowledgeable and trusted advisor, his participation always brings fresh ideas and a forward-thinking approach,” they say.
“His supportive, collaborative attitude ensures that we align effectively, support adjacent industries and prepare for the future of work.
