Forum Delivers Policy, Regulatory Updates

In late October HIVA held its second online member forum for 2024 at which the team provided updates on key advocacy, regulatory, technical and policy issues.

The forum also introduced Michael Rose, HVIA’s new National Manager for Skills, Training and Workforce Development.

Specific topics covered included: advocacy in the training and skills space; an update on HVIA’s election priorities document; outlines of HVIA’s recent advocacy on the NHVR Productivity Plan and the Department of Climate Change’s ‘End-of-Life’ Tyres consultations; updates on HVIA’s Powered Trailer and Trailer Wiring working groups; and other national regulatory matters.

HVIA also welcomed Aaron De Rozario as a guest speaker from the National Transport Commission (NTC), who presented on Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) regulatory changes that impact members, principally upcoming changes to axle mass limits and vehicle length limits.

For members unable to attend, a recording of the meeting is available here, and the PDF slidepack is available here.

As advised earlier this year, HVIA’s calendar of Member Forums will include two in-person meetings in each state, supplemented by two Member Forums held online.

The next round of Member Forums will return to in-person events held in each state throughout February 2025. Full details and registration will be available soon on the HVIA events webpage.

HVIA’s member meetings are the best way to ensure you are aware of all the major changes and updates impacting Australia’s heavy vehicle industry.

As always, members are invited to submit any technical/regulatory/policy issue for discussion at any meeting, and anyone from any of HVIA’s member organisations is welcome to attend. Please contact Adam Ritzinger (a.ritzinger@hvia.asn.au) to submit an item.

HVIA is also interested in member’s feedback on the revised format and delivery of Member Forums, particularly the online format. Send your feedback to a.ritzinger@hvia.asn.au or a.lausberg@hvia.asn.au.
