HVIA is consulting with members on the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s proposed changes to Pavement Horizontal Loading Standard in the Performance Based Standards (PBS) scheme.
In late August the NHVR announced consultation on revisions to the standard. The consultation paper can be viewed online here.
It is understood the NHVR is pursuing this reform to avoid the need for hard GCM limits, and the need for some vehicles to fit steerable axles, both of which are called under the prescriptive rules of the current standard.
HVIA has conducted an initial review of the paper and sent a handful of clarifying questions to the NHVR. It appears the reforms could lead to an uptake in Tyre Pressure Management Systems (TPMS), or Central Tyre Inflation Systems (CTIS), on PBS vehicles that are unable to meet the updated standard’s performance limits with the standard tyre pressure values.
HVIA will present the NHVR’s responses to those questions and seek further feedback and views from members at a special member webinar on Tuesday, September 1 at 2:00pm AEST.
Members of HVIA’s ‘Trailer Manufacturer’ and ‘Performance Based Standards’ Working Groups were invited to the webinar via email yesterday.
