As part of Queensland’s adoption of the National Automated Access System (NAAS), the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is hosting a series of industry support sessions during the NAAS preview period, running from August 24 to September 18. Sessions can be booked online now. You can trial the NAAS at naas.gov.au.
These informal drop-in sessions offer the opportunity to: meet the TMR team; ask questions about how NAAS can support your operations; learn about system features and functionality; and provide feedback on your NAAS experience.
HVIA encourages members and industry stakeholders wanting to learn more about NAAS to attend a session that suits them, with both in-person and online options available.
From August 24, participants will be able to add their low loader vehicle fleets into the NAAS and begin building a library of vehicle codes ahead of implementation. The official NAAS launch in Queensland for low loader vehicles is set for November 2026.
Nationally, most states are progressing toward NAAS implementation, which will reduce the heavy vehicle industry’s reliance on permits and allow more vehicle applications to be covered by gazette notices where key operating requirements are met.
Notices will still need to be applied for and registered in the NAAS, but will be available without lengthy wait times or permit costs.
While the national transition will take time, it may arrive sooner than expected, driven by the recently announced $400 million heavy vehicle productivity reform package.
