Austroads Forum Focuses On Distraction

HVIA calls on members with an interest in driver distraction and associated technologies to consider attending and presenting at an upcoming Austroads forum in Brisbane focusing on a driver distraction prevention strategy.

The forum will host industry and government stakeholders and scholars and will explore emerging strategies to address the safety impacts of driver distraction. It will be held on Wednesday, July 16 at the Transport and Main Roads offices in Brisbane.

Austroads advises that a variety of approaches and insights will be presented, and attendees are able to submit an expression of interest to present on their work in the field of distracted driving preventative measures.

Interested parties can read more about the event, complete their registration and submit an expression of interest to present here.

Adam Ritzinger, HVIA’s Chief Technical Officer, reinforces the contribution of distraction to road safety statistics and encourages all members providing driver distraction mitigation technologies to the market to engage with the event.

“NTI’s 2024 NTARC report identified inattention/distraction as the most prevalent contributing factor for truck crashes in 2023, with double the rate of any other cause,” he says.

“Because of that, it is crucial that distraction technologies aimed specifically at the heavy vehicle sector be front-of-mind for any holistic distraction prevention strategy.

“I know that many of our members provide game-changing technologies and systems to fleets across Australia, and it is crucial that they have the chance to share their valuable insights with others and guide future policies.”
