The Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance (AUSMASA) has launched “Driving Industry Conversations”, a national webinar and consultation series exploring workforce development, training priorities and emerging trends across the automotive sector.
Commencing in early June 2026, the series brings together perspectives from across industry – including employers, trainers and apprentices – to better understand current challenges such as skills shortages, evolving technologies and training delivery.
While broad in scope, many of the themes are relevant to the heavy vehicle sector, particularly as businesses navigate increasing technical complexity, electrification and the need for ongoing upskilling.
The initiative is also intended to inform the ongoing development of national training packages, including AUR and AUM qualifications, by incorporating industry feedback on skills gaps, training experiences and future capability requirements.
The program provides useful insight into how training and workforce priorities are being considered at a national level and may be of interest to HVIA members seeking a broader view of developments across the automotive sector.
There is a dedicated session on continuous learning in the heavy vehicle industry on August 3, 2026 which highlights the importance of maintaining workforce capability in a sector where safety, compliance and productivity remain closely linked to skill levels.
Other topics across the series – including electrification, apprenticeship pathways and advanced vehicle technologies – also reflect trends that continue to influence heavy vehicle operations.
