Volvo Launches New FL Electric Model

A new lighter weight Volvo FL Electric model is now available in Australia. Featuring LFP battery packs and a city-friendly narrower 2400mm cab, this new variant complements the existing medium-duty FL and FE Electric range.

The new 14,000kg GVM 4×2 rigid is now the lightest in the Volvo Trucks electric range and opens new segments in final-mile applications.

The new LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery packs have an energy capacity of 175kWh and enable fast charging time as low as an hour with a 150kW fast charger. The new 180kW driveline utilises a two-speed automated transmission to get power to the ground.

Wheelbase options range from 3,800mm to 6,500mm.

“This new truck provides an attractive cost-effective entry to low-emissions final mile and urban distribution roles,” says Tom Chapman, Vice President Sales and marketing, Volvo Trucks Australia.

“The option of LFP batteries provides a tough and robust energy storage option for operators that need flexibility in charging solutions.”

Volvo Group Australia Director of E-Mobility Solutions, Tim Camilleri, notes the new variant allows the truck manufacturer to move into lighter roles in urban transport.

“Many operators are chasing both payload and productivity and we feel this truck delivers both these attributes in excess while retaining the same levels of safety, quality that the Volvo brand has become synonymous with,” he says.

“Best of all, thanks to the support of the Clean Energy Finance Commission and Volvo Financial Services, the barriers to entry are now much lower with our Electric Ready Lease. Meaning all businesses regardless of size can opt to go electric.”

The 14-ton Volvo FL Electric is now available to purchase in Australia.
