VIC Announce LZEHV Network Expansion

Victoria’s low- and zero-emissions heavy vehicle (LZEHV) network has been expanded to include several of Melbourne’s critical freight transport links – the Burnley and Domain tunnels, and the West Gate Bridge.

The additions will allow current and future heavy vehicle combinations featuring LZEHVs to access those routes, and many others already pre-approved, at higher axle mass limits.

HVIA specifically called for those amendments in its response to the Victorian Freight Plan in June 2024, alongside calls to expand the network to accommodate LZEHVs of all types. As such, HVIA celebrates the delivery of one of those requests.

The latest version of Victoria’s LZEHV network is currently available to view on the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s ‘Route Planner’ tool, which can be accessed here. To view the network, select the ‘layers’ tab from the menu, and then select the Victorian LZEHV pre-approved network from the list.

Note that there is an access condition attached to the West Gate Bridge, which reads: ‘Conditionally approved – temporary access is permitted for this vehicle until 30 November 2025’.

HVIA understands that the condition is set in anticipation of the opening of the new West Gate tunnels, and expects LZEHV access to switch to the tunnels once they are open.

HVIA encourages all members seeking access to Victoria’s LZEHV network to contact Chief Technical Officer Adam Ritzinger at a.ritzinger@hvia.asn.au.
