The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Queensland has invited industry stakeholders to attend a NAAS Preview Webinar which will be held on August 7, 2026.
The National Automated Access System (NAAS) is a digital platform designed to automate heavy vehicle road access decisions, replace traditional manual permit applications, and streamline journey planning for operators.
The system will be implemented in Queensland on low loaders from November 1, 2026 if they are operating outside of the National Class 1 Load Carrying Vehicle Dimension Exemption Notice 2025 (No. 2) and National Class 1 Load Carrying Vehicle Mass Exemption Notice 2025 (No. 1).
TMR has been engaging with industry extensively over the past month to ensure stakeholders are up to date with the new platform. The November launch is just the first step in Queensland towards the NAAS, which will eventually cover most heavy vehicles and routes in Australia including Performance Based Standards (PBS) vehicles.
Director Russell Hoelzl recently spoke at the July HVIA Member Forum in Queensland and shared that a test platform of the Queensland NAAS would be available for early interaction in August for certifiers, assessors, operators and other interested parties ahead of the November launch.

The Tasmanian NAAS portal is already available at www.naas.gov.au for anyone wishing to trial the NAAS now. The Queensland portal will be quite similar in interactivity, styling and functionality.
