Rubber Hits The Road For HV Facility

Construction is under way on the Logic Innovation Precinct in Wodonga thanks to $24 million funding from the Federal Government.

This includes $22 million for a Heavy Vehicle Technology Program and $2 million for Phase 1 of an Advanced Manufacturing Centre of Excellence.

The new facilities feature a heavy vehicle technology workshop, four-wheel-drive obstacle course, main building and carpark.

Once operational, the precinct will offer heavy vehicle driver training, technology and maintenance. It will also have experiential advanced manufacturing with 3D printing, robotics and automation.

This will better equip workers for the rapidly evolving transport, logistics and manufacturing industries by delivering the latest skills and training.

The precinct is expected to attract up to 1,200 students in its first four years by enabling Wodonga TAFE to expand its Heavy Vehicle Technology program and introduce Advanced Manufacturing. It will also support the Australian Defence Force, emergency services and the education sector.

Wodonga TAFE already provides close to 6,000 Australian Defence Force (ADF) members with training each year and the new facilities will further boost this critical role.

Wodonga TAFE has appointed Colin Joss & Co Pty Ltd (Joss Construction) as the main works construction provider.

These are just two projects being funded through the Albury Wodonga Regional Projects initiative.

Federal Minister for Regional Development and Local Government, Kristy McBain, says the Government investment will create jobs and economic opportunities in the Albury Wodonga region, as well as benefitting Australia’s heavy vehicle industry.

“Transforming how heavy vehicle operators are trained will better equip them for new technologies and practices, making our roads safer for everyone,” she says.

Victorian Minister for Regional Development, Jaclyn Symes, adds the Logic Innovation Precinct is a great example of how the State Government is strengthening regional Victoria by ensuring communities have access to the skills and infrastructure they need to thrive.

“Victoria’s TAFE Network is leading the way in industry-connected skills and training, and this investment in Wodonga TAFE is a testament to our commitment to strengthening regional education and workforce development,” Victorian Minister for Skills and TAFE, Gayle Tierney, says.

“The Logic Innovation Precinct will ensure students have access to cutting-edge training in heavy vehicle technology and advanced manufacturing, supporting industries that are critical to our economy.”
