South Australian small and medium businesses are being offered the opportunity to enact energy efficiency and sustainability practices in their businesses through the Powering Business Grants program. Matched funding is available, and the grants provide up to 50% reimbursement for eligible energy-efficient upgrades or renewable energy systems. Businesses can apply for funding between $2,500 and $75,000, based on project costs ranging from $5,000 to $150,000 (ex-GST).
There are two funding streams:
- Stream 1: Solar and Battery Projects – Grants for installing solar panels with battery storage or battery-only systems. These must be listed on the Clean Energy Council’s approved product list and installed by accredited providers
- Stream 2: Energy Efficiency Projects – Covers upgrades to refrigeration, insulation, lighting, and other equipment that reduces energy usage
HVIA members could consider applying to this program for projects such as:
- Upgrading workshop lighting and HVAC systems
- Installing solar and battery systems to reduce reliance on the grid
- Replacing outdated refrigeration or compressed air systems with energy-efficient alternatives
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be a small or medium South Australian business or not-for-profit
- Hold an active ABN and be registered for GST (with some exceptions)
- Have a turnover of at least $75,000 and payroll under $18 million
- Own or lease the premises where upgrades will occur
- Provide matched funding for the project
