It’s not too late for HVIA members of the trucking industry to participate in stage one of the Future Freight Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) bid.
The Future Freight CRC is a national R&D centre that works with industry, government and research partners to deliver collaborative projects that benefit individual organisations and boost the sector.
The concept of a Future Freight CRC has developed over a few years as partners have seen the potential for collaborations to shift thinking and implement new technologies in the sector.
The Centre will generate evidence-based knowledge and innovative solutions that build resilience, accelerate decarbonisation and enhance efficiency of multimodal movement of goods by road, rail, sea and air.
Organisations that opt to use this model to tackle freight-related challenges receive co-funding for projects, oversight and support of a highly experienced team (at no charge) and access to a like-minded collaborative network.
To date, the Future Freight CRC partner group includes a broad cross-section of entities – freight companies, freight customers, industry associations, technology and energy companies, government, researchers and many more.

What Is A CRC?
CRCs belong to a well-established federally funded initiative to address challenges and drive innovation in a nominated sector over the medium to long term.
Each CRC is run independently and focuses on its own partners’ and sector’s challenges, whilst benefiting from investment and support from the federal government CRC program.
Relevance To HVIA Members?
Members who have R&D project opportunities which they would like to put forward to the CRC can do so by contacting the team at FFCRC.
Projects which are currently being looked at include trials, AI/machine learning tools, studies, demos, and proofs of concept. Some examples of projects already discussed are shown in the table above.
HVIA welcomes the opportunity for collaborative research and funding which will benefit our industry and counteract the increasing costs of doing business.
If you think you have an innovation or project which might meet the model, please get in touch with the FFCRC team to see if it is a good fit.
