HVIA’s diverse range of working groups give members the opportunity to proactively drive the issues that matter to our industry. Over the past few weeks, HVIA has celebrated some of those achievements, and in this article, the fourth in the Talk the Torque series, HVIA provides updates on its Powered Trailers and Trailer Wiring Working Groups.
HVIA’s Powered Trailers and Trailer Wiring Working Groups boast more than 75 individual members between them, representing many sectors of our membership – truck and trailer OEMs, equipment and technology providers, and engineers and consultants.
Both groups have met online several times throughout 2024, and those discussions have led to advocacy on regulatory changes made by HVIA at national forums such as the Vehicle Standards Consultative Forum (VSCF), hosted by the Federal Department of Infrastructure.
Specifically, HVIA and its members have:
> Prepared a formal submission to the VSCF for the addition of a National Transport Commission program of work to address the necessary regulatory changes to allow powered trailers to be used on the Australian road network;
> Drafted a set of national guidelines to facilitate trials of vehicles with powered trailer axles; and
> Reviewed and discussed options for future trailer wiring regulations, encompassing both prescriptive and performance-based wiring standards.
“HVIA’s Working Groups truly represent some of the best work that HVIA does,” says Adam Ritzinger, HVIA’s Chief Technical Officer.
“They give us the chance to be proactive, and steer our industry in ways that directly benefit us.
“Leading the industry forward in these critical areas is one of the most rewarding aspects of my role, and I strongly encourage all members to get involved.”
As always, HVIA invites any interested member to join a current Working Group, or propose an entirely new one. Members are encouraged to contact Adam Ritzinger at a.ritzinger@hvia.asn.au.
