HVIA Secures Grant For Sustainability Program

HVIA members and the broader transport industry will be the beneficiary of guidance material to help them navigate emissions reporting thanks to Green Industries SA’s Lead-Educate-Assist-Promote grant program.

A $100,000 Lead-Educate-Assist-Promote (LEAP) grant has been awarded to HVIA for its Moving Forward Sustainability Program. The LEAP grant program provides funding to industry associations, peak industry bodies, registered business groups and organisations to support project and improvements that will drive resource efficiency and sustainability.

The program will involve two stages: firstly, working with consulting firm 2XE to develop an online guide for heavy vehicle manufacturers, distributors and service companies on best practices for decarbonisation, circularity and sustainability risk management; and secondly, delivering an education and training program to members of the industry so they can best adopt the online guide.

HVIA will work with members with SA operations and the HVIA LITE committee to identify specific industry case studies of reducing emissions and the circular economy to further enhance the industry’s emissions performance.

HVIA CEO Todd Hacking says the transport industry is predicted to be the highest-emitting industry in Australia by 2030 without intervention.

“In a climate-aware economy, this is concerning. Being proactive does not need to cost a fortune or impact operations but it does require some out-of-the-box thinking, a commitment from leadership and change management across the supply chain,” he says.

“Our job is to help provide practical, affordable examples from others in the sector to help shine a light on best practice.

“HVIA looks forward to working with our members, other stakeholders, the broader industry and the SA Government as we work towards some simple, yet instructive guidance material to help them in their planning and execution.”
