Marking a decade since HVIA’s transition from a Queensland-based organisation (CVIAQ) to a truly national voice for our industry, the gala dinner will incorporate the prestigious 2025 Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia National Awards.

The Heavy Vehicle Technician Apprentice of the Year Award is awarded to an individual who has demonstrated advanced ability as they undergo their apprenticeship in a discipline related to heavy vehicle service or repair.
The award celebrates technical mastery and diagnostic excellence in vehicle systems, reflecting the evolving role of technicians in modern transport solutions.
The award honours final-year and graduating technicians working across the heavy vehicle industry for dealerships, OEM’s, operators and other HVIA member companies.

The Heavy Vehicle Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year Award honours emerging talent in the design, fabrication and assembly of trailers, vehicle bodies and specialist heavy equipment.
Australia’s world-class heavy vehicle manufacturing industry depends on our emerging talent pool, with the skills to produce innovative and productive vehicles, built to tackle Australia’s unique and diverse freight task.
The award covers our vital manufacturing sector trades including Certificate III in Automotive Manufacturing Technical Operations – Bus, Truck and Trailer, and other HVIA member employees whose trade might be fabricator, boiler maker, fitter and turner or other trades directly applicable to heavy vehicle manufacturing and body-building.

The Community Leadership Award recognises HVIA member companies that have actively contributed to strengthening communities through meaningful, inclusive, and strategic engagement.
This award goes beyond traditional CSR – it celebrates initiatives that create lasting value for people, places, and industry reputation, whether through education, diversity, road safety, sustainability, partnerships, or in-kind support.
Nominations are open from Wednesday 18 June, closing Friday 8 August 2025.
AWARD PRIZES
Award finalists will be eligible to attend the HVIA Gala Awards Dinner which will be held in Brisbane on Thursday 4 December 2025 where national winners will be announced.
The national award winner will receive:
- recognition at the HVIA Gala Awards Dinner
- a trophy and a certificate,
- $2,000 donated to the winning community initiative,
- their names and profile publicised on HVIA’s website and e-newsletter Talk the Torque.
*The prize is not transferrable.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The Community Leadership Award is an employer-nominated award.
HVIA Membership
The nominee must be a current financial HVIA member company (up to date with member dues). Nominations may also be submitted on behalf of wholly owned branches or subsidiaries of the member organisation.
Innovation/Initiative Implementation
The nominated innovation, activity or initiative must have been implemented in the past two years or be currently in use at the time of nomination. The entry must demonstrate a positive and measurable impact aligned with the award’s purpose (e.g. safety, sustainability, community, or productivity).
Relevance to the Award
The nomination must demonstrate how the activity or product is innovative (leading to improvement or progress in its field), and/or shows leadership through engagement, transformation, or contribution to the industry or community.
Approval
Each nomination must be endorsed by the Primary HVIA Member Contact and a member of the organisation’s Executive or Senior Leadership Team.
Collaboration
Where the initiative involves external partners (e.g. customers, suppliers, community groups), this should be acknowledged, and consent to share relevant materials should be obtained prior to submission.
Supporting Material
We strongly encourage including:
• Photos, videos, testimonials, data or media coverage.
• Case studies that illustrate the challenge, implementation, and outcome.
These materials not only assist the judges but also support HVIA’s industry advocacy and promotional work.
NOMINATION QUESTIONS
- Initiative – What was the activity, engagement or program that demonstrated your community leadership?
- Consultation – How was the initiative developed and who was consulted or involved in shaping it?
- Impact – What outcomes or improvements has the initiative delivered?
- Scalability – How transferable or repeatable is this initiative within your business, or across the wider industry?
- Leadership – Why does this represent true community leadership – not just compliance or obligation?
JUDGING CRITERIA WEIGHTING (100 points)
- Initiative – Clarity, relevance and purpose of the activity or engagement (20 pts)
- Consultation – Quality of stakeholder engagement and inclusivity in design (20 pts)
- Impact – Evidence of positive outcomes and lasting benefit to the community and/or public perception (30 pts)
- Scalability – Potential to expand, inspire others, or contribute to sector-wide reputation enhancement (15 pts)
- Leadership – Proactivity, authenticity, and alignment with industry values (15 pts)
