HVIA Joins National Future Transport Summit

HVIA has been contributing to a major national initiative, the National Future Transport Summit, aimed at proposing a plan for Australia’s transport future.

A consortium of 100 industry associations, government agencies, universities and leading companies will convene the Summit at Brisbane City Hall on September 17 and 18. This will bring Australia’s governments and major transport industry associations together for the first time in a national summit. The consortium is being co-ordinated by the Centre for Connected and Automated Transport (CCAT) as a joint industry initiative.

The Summit involves the participation of state and federal transport agencies. Its recommendations will be considered by the Infrastructure and Transport Ministers Council (ITMM) and it is hoped that it will provide an agreed plan for Australia’s transport future.

It is much more than just the technology but how the nation can facilitate the transition towards a connected and automated transport future, including the need for government planning and investment in automated freight, freight corridors, better interoperability with ports and airports, safety on rural roads, and much closer collaboration between government and the private sector.

The Summit will involve some 300 delegates at CEO level or their direct reports. The keynote international speaker will be Richard Willder, Uber’s Global Head of Autonomous Policy, who will fly in from New York. The moderator for the proceedings will be David Speers from the ABC’s Insiders.

Help plan the Summit
The Consortium meets monthly online and directs the Summit’s recommendations.

Membership of the Consortium will not involve any membership fees. However, it will ensure you have a seat at the table in drafting a nationally agreed transport agenda, together with recognition as one of its originators in the recommendations which go to ministers.

The consortium will remain in place after the Summit to continue to monitor the implementation of the national future transport plan.

The Consortium is holding an online briefing for prospective members at 2:00pm AEST on July 9. If you would like to attend, please register by emailing info@ccat.org.au.

In the meantime, further information about the Summit can be found  here.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the secretariat, Brook Hall, Executive Director of CCAT, on 0437 886 403 or Brook.Hall@ccat.org.au.

In addition, HVIA’s Chief Policy Officer Adele Lausberg will be speaking at CCAT’s Sustainability Consultation Workshop tomorrow online at 4:00pm AEST. Register at this page if you’d like to attend.
