To support the HVIA Women’s Network which was launched in February 2026, HVIA has put together an advisory group of key members who are passionate about attracting and retaining more women in the heavy vehicle industry.
The group last met on Friday, April 24 to discuss the direction of the network and what initiatives would provide the most value for modest effort.
Initiatives so far include the HVIA Women’s Network mailing list and monthly EDM as well as annual events to be held each year at TruckShowX and in the alternative year, the Brisbane Truck Show. We are now just days away from TruckShowX and very excited to launch our inaugural breakfast which is almost at capacity.
Without ruining the surprise, many possible initiatives were discussed, and we will be rolling out something in the mentoring space soon, however it will not be a classic mentoring program. For anyone in industry looking for a mentoring program, Transport Women Australia Limited (TWAL) offer a ‘Creating Connections’ program for its members. Additionally, check out our article on Mentor Walks to see if this program is suitable for you.
Other initiatives discussed were around thriving workplaces and how we can connect our mission to increase female participation in the industry with improving workplace conditions more generally and communicating evidence-based best practice to our members. For HVIA members, we currently have a Working Group for Workforce Learning and Development which is led by Aaron Johnstone. If you are interested in being involved or partnering with HVIA on workforce development, please get in touch.
We do have room for a couple more HVIA members on our advisory committee (of any gender), so please reach out to me at r.michaud@hvia.asn.au if you would like to join and help shape the future of the HVIA Women’s Network.
