The Federal Department of Infrastructure has drafted an amendment instrument for ADR 105/00 – Blind Spot Information Systems and is seeking feedback from interested parties.
The ADR was announced in 2023 as part of the ‘Safer Freight Vehicles’ package that accompanied the overall truck width increase from 2.50 metres to 2.55 metres, and applies to goods vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Mass over eight tonnes, and with an overall width exceeding 2,500mm.
The amended ADR applies to new model vehicles from November 2025 and all vehicles from February 2027.
The impact of the amendment instrument is relatively minor – its primary purpose is to clarify the specifications for the test bicyclist target(s), including options for demonstrating that a BSIS will perform as required for smaller bicycles/bicyclists, while maintaining consistency with UN Regulation No. 151.
HVIA understands that the proposed requirements should result in a less onerous ADR, because it provides clearer options for manufacturers to use to demonstrate compliance.
Interested members are invited to contact HVIA Chief Technical Officer Adam Ritzinger at a.ritzinger@hvia.asn.au to view the proposed amendment instrument and explanatory statement. The Department is seeking feedback up to Friday 28 November 2025.
