EOI Called For Australian-First ADAS Trial

Transport for NSW has called for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) in an Australian-first initiative designed to accelerate safer and more sustainable ways to travel.

While the Advanced Bus Technology Trial will focus on passenger transport, it will provide an important safe and controlled environment to test advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and explore how automation can deliver benefits for passengers, drivers, depot workers and operators.

The trial will take place at the Future Mobility Testing and Research Centre (FMTRC) in Cudal and include a staged program to evaluate advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) technologies in buses including automated emergency braking, blind spot detection, lane keep assist, parking assist and more.

It will be delivered in phases from February 2026, starting with ADAS safety testing before progressing to depot automation functions.

In addition, the trial will involve integration with zero-emission buses to test how automation can enhance depot operations such as self-parking, charging and dispatch, improving efficiency and service reliability.

Backed by a $5 million NSW Government investment, this project strengthens NSW’s leadership in transport innovation and supports the industry’s capability to transition towards automated and zero-emission fleets.

Transport for NSW is inviting EOIs from bus operators, manufacturers, technology providers and industry partners interested in shaping the future of bus transport. EOIs are open from September 29 to November 24, 2025. Contracts will be awarded in early 2026.
