DSUB PBS Braking Standard Delayed

Changes to the Directional Stability Under Braking (DSUB) standard in the Performance Based Standards (PBS) scheme have now been delayed by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) until January 18, 2027.

Originally, DSUB was planned for implementation on July 1, 2026. The new implementation timeframe is in response to requests from industry to allow more time to prepare supply chains and production processes to support the change. The NHVR also considered the significant challenges faced by the sector in fuel supply pressures and increasing input costs.

When implemented, the change will formally remove Load Proportioning Valves (LPVs) as a means of complying with the standard. Instead, the standard will require fitment of an advanced braking system (e.g. ABS, EBS or trailer EBS). Read more here.

Information on DSUB and FAQ’s have been made available by the NHVR for guidance. Further information on DSUB and HVIAs member submission(s) can be found here.

HVIA is still working with the NHVR to understand if a compliant solution can be found to utilise trailer EBS status lights as a means of showing the trailer EBS is operational and fault free.
