Four finalists have been named in the Community Leadership Award category of the 2025 Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia National Awards.
The Community Leadership Award recognises HVIA member companies that have actively contributed to strengthening communities through meaningful, inclusive and strategic engagement.
This award goes beyond traditional CSR – it celebrates initiatives that create lasting value for people, places and industry reputation, whether through education, diversity, road safety, sustainability, partnerships or in-kind support.
Cummins South Pacific: Climate Action Schools
Cummins’ leadership in the Climate Action Schools program reflects a deep, hands-on commitment to sustainability and community impact. Staff across the business have contributed to mentoring, working bees and hosting industry tours, embedding Cummins’ operational expertise into the program’s design and delivery.
By connecting school-based learning with real-world practices like remanufacturing and LEAN methodologies, Cummins fosters a culture of ownership and purpose. This initiative demonstrates how corporate leadership can extend beyond business performance to build stronger, more resilient communities.
PACCAR Australia: Healthy Heads In Trucks & Sheds
PACCAR Australia has played a pivotal role in expanding the reach of Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds, a mobile mental health initiative supporting individuals across the transport and logistics sector. Through vehicle provision, funding and ongoing industry engagement, PACCAR has helped scale the Roadshow program from a single DAF LF to a two-truck fleet – now including a Kenworth T410SAR – enabling face-to-face support at over 40 events annually.
By backing HHTS with practical resources and sector-wide visibility, PACCAR is helping embed mental health awareness into the daily rhythm of transport operations. Its contribution ensures the initiative remains mobile, accessible and impactful – delivering screenings, education and support to thousands of workers each year and reinforcing well-being as a core part of industry sustainability.
Penske Australia & New Zealand: DXC’s Digital Futures Program
Penske Australia & New Zealand has demonstrated community leadership through its ongoing support of DXC’s Digital Futures Program, donating 70 refurbished laptops to students over the past three years. By repurposing high-turnover tech, Penske is reducing e-waste while improving digital access for learners across Australia and beyond.
Guided by its OPTIC values – Ownership, Passion, Teamwork, Integrity and Care – Penske’s contribution goes beyond donation. Through active promotion and collaboration, the company is helping build a scalable model for tech reuse and educational equity, aligned with broader sustainability goals across the transport sector.
Volvo Group Australia: Foodbank NSW & ACT
Volvo Trucks Australia has demonstrated community leadership through its partnership with Foodbank NSW & ACT, co-developing a custom Volvo FH Globetrotter prime mover and refrigerated trailer to support emergency food relief and regional outreach. Built to handle dual-temperature zones and remote deliveries, the vehicle expands Foodbank’s reach and resilience – including flood-affected communities in Northern NSW.
Volvo’s engineering, consultation and long-term support reflect a deep commitment to social impact. By investing in practical solutions and collaborating across sectors, Volvo has helped reduce freight costs, improve access to food and build a scalable model for nonprofit logistics – one that’s adaptable to future decarbonised delivery platforms and broader industry needs.
