ARENA is providing Zenobē, a global fleet electrification specialist, with $8.5 million from the Driving the Nation Fund to develop a BEV (battery electric vehicle) truck charging hub in Sydney that will show the benefit of integrating BEVs into grocery delivery services.
The project will demonstrate the commercial viability of electric vehicles as a service (EVaaS) business model – an Australian first. Zenobē will develop a charging facility that includes 22 x 120 kW dual-port DC chargers and a 100kW / 150kW second life station battery to support maximum charge requirements and enable operational cost reductions over time.
A total of 60 BEV delivery trucks from HVIA member Foton (T5 Electric Trucks) will be leased to Woolworths, with access to the charging facility made available for daytime and overnight charging. In addition, fleet management services, smart charging software and maintenance services will be provided by Zenobē.
It is expected that the project will help overcome barriers to accelerating the uptake of BEV truck fleets, reduce the TCO (total cost of ownership) gap of BEV trucks, and increase skills, capacity, and knowledge relevant to offsite charging hubs and second life battery use.
Zenobē’s Country Director for Australia and New Zealand, Gareth Ridge, presented at HVIA’s TruckShowX on their developments in charging for trucks, as well as second life battery solutions.
