Volvo Mark 60,000th Locally Built Truck

The 60,000th Australian-built Volvo truck has been handed over to Borg Group representatives as a part of celebrations commemorating 60 years of Volvo in Australia.

The eye-catching Diamond Edition FH16 780 Globetrotter XL was handed over to Michael and Darren Borg at Volvo Group Australia’s Wacol headquarters.

“It’s a proud moment in Australian manufacturing to see this truck delivered to another proud Australian manufacturer,” says Tom Chapman, Vice President Sales and Marketing, Volvo Trucks Australia.

“Borg’s drive and innovation over the past 35 years have been inspiring, and it’s been a real privilege to see them grow from strength to strength.”

Michael Borg, co-founder of Borg Group, says “It’s a great privilege to receive Volvo’s 60,000th locally made truck – a milestone that speaks to more than 30 years of partnership built on trust, quality and shared values. We’ve grown together, and this moment is a testament to what long-term collaboration can achieve.”

The milestone truck will be put to work hauling machinery and equipment to support across the varying Borg businesses. The 17-litre, 3,800Nm prime mover is rated to 130 tons and features a 13-speed I-Shift automated transmission, Volvo Dynamic Steering and Pilot Plus automated cruise control.

The striking Diamond Edition livery pays homage to six decades of Volvo in Australia while the interior boasts limited-edition dark leather upholstery and a 400-watt sound system with sub-woofer to keep the road tunes coming. A full suite of passive and active safety systems protect both the driver and other road users.

Volvo Truck’s manufacturing facility in Wacol was established in 1972 and has grown steadily over the past 53 years to become one of Australia’s largest vehicle manufacturing facilities. Every truck to leave the Wacol plant proudly wears the Australian Made logo.
