After 20 years operating in Queensland, The Industry School – of which HVIA is a key industry partner – has announced its proposed expansion into Melbourne, bringing its industry-led education model to Victoria for the first time, subject to Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) approval.
Nick Harrison, Principal of its Sunshine Coast campus, will lead Melbourne as its foundational Principal. A decorated athlete and experienced educational leader, Nick has a deep understanding of The Industry School’s deliberately different program that shapes young people who are high-achieving, industry-fit and future-focused.
Unlike traditional trade schools that focus primarily on large-scale trade delivery such as plumbing, carpentry or commercial cookery, The Industry School’s model is centred around industry immersion, applied learning, and partnerships with employers and industry leaders across a range of sectors.
Partners include Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia, Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association, AMA Group Ltd, The ACIA, Bosch Power Tools & Accessories Australia & New Zealand, CMV Truck & Bus, CEDIA, MEGT (Australia) Ltd and Housing Industry Association (HIA).
In Melbourne, the proposed curriculum will combine core secondary education with hands-on, industry-informed learning experiences designed to help students develop practical skills, confidence, employability and clear pathways into further education, training and employment – operating across its core Automotive, Construction and Energy Academies.
The new campus will be located at 595 Little Collins Street, Melbourne, placing students in the heart of the city and close to industry.
