Four finalists have been named in the Sustainability Initiative Award category of the 2025 Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia National Awards.
This award recognises HVIA member organisations that have taken meaningful action to improve environmental outcomes within the heavy vehicle industry.
The initiatives may contribute to a zero-emissions transport future through enabling technology, infrastructure, business model innovation, or supply chain collaboration. It may also reflect circular economy principles such as reducing waste, extending product lifespan, or enabling reuse, remanufacturing or material recovery.
The 2025 finalists are:
Charge Hub Australia: Large-Scale Zero-Emission Depot Electrification
Charge Hub Australia, in partnership with Kempower and Addelec, is delivering large-scale electrification of zero-emissions depots – including WA’s Malaga and Bayswater sites supporting over 240 electric buses.
The initiative demonstrates a scalable infrastructure model directly transferable to freight and logistics fleets.
The program combines modular DC charging systems, dynamic load management and staged deployment in live depots – solving key barriers to electrification such as grid impact, operational disruption and lifecycle efficiency.
With expansion underway across multiple states and into the UK, Charge Hub’s approach offers a proven framework for heavy fleet transition and sets a benchmark for sustainable infrastructure delivery.
Cummins: Climate Action Schools Program
Cummins has helped shape the Climate Action Schools Program by embedding its operational expertise into a hands-on sustainability education model.
Through investment, mentoring and industry tours, Cummins connects school-based learning with real-world practices like remanufacturing and LEAN methodologies.
The initiative equips students with practical tools and a sustainability-first mindset, while demonstrating how corporate leadership can drive scalable environmental outcomes.
By aligning education with industry, Cummins is fostering future-ready skills and advancing circular economy principles across the community.
QTRS: SolarEdge Powered Trailer
QTRS, in collaboration with SolarEdge e-Mobility, TMC Australia and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems, has developed a modular trailer system that powers refrigeration using solar, battery and regenerative axle technologies. This reduces reliance on diesel engines, cutting emissions and fuel use during transit and loading.
Designed for compatibility with existing fleets, the system has proven effective in field trials and offers a scalable pathway to zero-emission cold chain transport. Its flexible architecture supports rapid adoption, helping operators reduce environmental impact without major changes to trailer configurations.
Team Global Express: Smarter Fleet, Smarter Facilities And Smarter Drivers
Team Global Express is advancing sustainable logistics through its “Smarter Fleet, Smarter Facilities and Smarter Drivers” strategy. At its Bungarribee depot, electric trucks, solar infrastructure and a 1MW battery energy storage system work together to reduce emissions and operational costs, while route optimisation and telematics improve driver efficiency and fleet performance.
Developed with energy and vehicle partners, the initiative demonstrates how targeted upgrades across vehicles, infrastructure and workforce can deliver scalable decarbonisation. By sharing learnings and refining systems in real time, TGE offers a practical blueprint for zero-emissions transport that’s adaptable across the logistics sector.
The winners of the 2025 Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia National Awards will be announced at the HVIA 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner to be held on Thursday, December 4 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre . Buy tickets here.
