The ROADBOSS crew has never travelled farther to bring you a single issue chock full of cracking yarns on the amazing people that underpin Australia’s world-class transport industry.
And we’ve also not journeyed to a more diverse set of locations than we have for our just-released Winter edition – highlighting the incredibly disparate conditions under which truckers operate, both in Australia and around the world.
The farthest and most extreme location we visited for (rather aptly) our Winter Issue is without doubt Harrison Hunkin’s epic story on the lobster hauliers of Novia Scotia, Canada, who battle the chilling conditions of the Northern Atlantic to deliver the finest lobsters in the world – earning them the reputation as the hardest truckers in North America.
At the other extreme is Cobey Bartels’ arduous trip to a remote and incredibly hot part of the Northern Territory (yes, even during winter) to spend time with outback road builders F&J Bitumen, following one of the harshest wet seasons on record, as they repair critical stretches of highway from Darwin to Katherine, and out to the West Australian border past Timber Creek.
In a region where there’s no summer or winter – just wet and dry seasons – this incredible family business is another inspiring example of how critical trucks – and trucking people – are to keeping our vast country connected and moving!
Though there’s probably no greater example of this than our feature on Cochrane’s Transport, whose iconic fleet of red rigids have been the lifeblood of remote parts of South Australia for more than half a century – providing vital supplies to everything from supermarkets and workshops to post offices and hospitals and even outback cattle stations.
As usual, this – and all the features in our latest issue – are beautifully written and illustrated by ROADBOSS’s cracking team of writers, photographers and art designers, increasingly recognised as the best in the business. We trust you agree and enjoy the fruits of their labour!
