The Federal Department of Infrastructure has released an updated Compliance and Enforcement Strategy, outlining how it will conduct its C&E activities under the Road Vehicle Standards legislation for the 2026-29 period.
The strategy, available to view here, may impact any HVIA member that has exposure to any part of the Road Vehicle Standards Act 2018, and its subordinate legislation, which includes Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) and Component Type Approval (CTA) holders, persons and businesses submitting either of those approvals, and test facilities.
Members falling into one of those categories are strongly encouraged to read the strategy and direct any queries to HVIA’s Chief Technical Officer Adam Ritzinger at a.ritzinger@hvia.asn.au. Reviewing it need not be onerous as it just 10 pages.
The three compliance and enforcement focus areas listed in the strategy are:
> Strengthening accountability for repeated non-compliance;
> Responding to regulatory challenges from emerging vehicle technologies; and
> Supporting approval holder understanding of quality systems and testing facility integrity.
The strategy also explains the mechanism available to report suspected non-compliance. It outlines that information from the public, industry and other regulators helps the Department identify and respond to emerging concerns.
