PACCAR Australia appoints new Managing Director

PACCAR Australia has announced the appointment of a new Managing Director, Damian Smethurst, who will officially take charge on Monday 8 May 2023.

In his 25-year career with PACCAR Australia, Mr Smethurst’s leadership pathway has included Director of Operations, Chief Engineer, and most recently General Manager PACCAR Parts Australia, where he has led the parts organisation to consecutive years of record levels of customer support and parts availability.

Mr Smethurst succeeds outgoing Managing Director Andrew Hadjikakou, who has taken a role outside of the road transport industry.

HVIA Chief Executive Todd Hacking said Mr Hadjikakou has been an industry stalwart.

“Andrew has contributed and volunteered his time and effort across bodies such as TIC, ATA and HVIA to promote the industry,” Mr Hacking said.

“He has been a leading voice in ensuring Australia’s manufacturing capability is recognised and valued at the highest levels of the Australian Government.

“HVIA wishes him well in the next phase of his career.”

Mr Hacking said Mr Smethurst was a very worthy successor.

“We are delighted that Damian has been selected to fill this hugely important position in Australia’s heavy vehicle industry,” he added.

“To have an Australian in the role is one thing, but to have someone so invested in Australian innovation, design and manufacturing as Damian is, leaves PACCAR in very good hands.”
