HVIA National Awards Southern Region finalists were honoured in Melbourne last week in front of an audience of industry leaders at the HVIA Executive Club event held in Melbourne
Hosted by EnergyAustralia, the event also featured presentations by special guests Senator Carol Brown, Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Kim Lindsay, the recently retired as Managing Director of the Lindsay Group, and Jack Kotlyar, the Green Transport Manager at EnergyAustralia.
HVIA’s Safety Innovation Award was presented by Senator Brown along with David Harradine, representing the award category sponsor, Geotab.
The award allows HVIA members to either nominate a safety product, safety feature or safety system that has been brought to market or implemented to make product(s) or workplaces safer.
Rocky Di Battista collected the award for Magnum Australia which was introduced as a national finalist for the Magnum Modular Monitor, a portable fire-fighting module.
The Product Innovation Award recognises members who’ve designed or utilised new technology or built an innovative product to address the growing freight task. Tony Clark, CEO of award sponsor NTI and Truck Assist, was on hand to congratulate Lucidity Australia’s Mathew Jenkins for its fuel tanker overfill probe junction box.
Two finalists competing for the National Apprentice of the Year Award were honoured. The award is sponsored by Wurth Australia and finalists were presented with their certificates and keepsake by Michael Hopkins, recently appointed Chief Executive and Commissioner of the National Transport Commission.
Nominees for the Apprentice of the Year Award are individuals who have demonstrated advanced ability as they undergo their apprenticeship in a discipline related to heavy vehicle repair, service or the manufacturing sector.
Paris Maw from CMV Truck & Bus in Albury-Wodonga was recognised at the event. Paris was also a competitor in this year’s National Apprentice Challenge staged alongside the Brisbane Truck Show.
Southern Region Finalist Todd Shalders hails from CMV Truck & Bus in Melbourne. Todd’s nomination describes him as a great team player who can always be counted on. While he is still in the early stages of his career, Todd has his sights set on being recognised as a great technician and future leader.
The National Awards will be presented at HVIA’s Gala Dinner on Friday November 24 in Brisbane. The Peter Langworthy Future Leader Award and Community Leadership Awards will also be presented there.
