HVIA is excited to kick-off 2026 with our newly created Women’s Network – an initiative aimed at providing support to females who are part of HVIA member organisations.
The network’s vision is to increase female participation in the heavy vehicle industry, and we are looking forward to working closely with members to achieve this outcome.
The Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) 2024-2025 report showed there is still much work to be done to bridge the gap. The publicly available data explorer for this period reveals females account for just 11 per cent of CEOs in the transport, postal and warehousing industry, 12 per cent of machinery operators and drivers, and only seven per cent of technicians and trades people.
For anyone wishing to join our HVIA Women’s Network mailing list, please click here. Anyone is welcome to subscribe, as this network is about support and creating an inclusive and more balanced industry for all.
The Network will also aim to support member organisations by sharing the success stories of our industry colleagues and how they have crafted programs which deliver results and support increase female participation.
We will connect like-minded members, host events, collaborate with industry partners and encourage female members to participate in our industry.
The objective of the HVIA Women’s Network is not to compete with or replace any existing initiatives, but to fill gaps in the current industry offerings which may at times be limited in their ability to service our specific membership base.
HVIA have already worked closely in the past attending events or supporting groups such as Trades Women Australia (TWA), Transport Women Australia (TWAL), Women of Zero Emissions Vehicles (WoZEV+), National Women in Transport and more.
We look forward to continuing to work closely with our industry colleagues and directly with our members to increase the number of Women working in the heavy vehicle industry in the future.
More information about future events and initiatives will be provided soon. In the meantime, in addition to joining our network, if you have any ideas, enquiries or are just looking for a chat on this topic, please reach out to HVIA Chief Engineer Rachel Michaud at r.michaud@hvia.asn.au.
