Euro VI emissions systems now on the agenda

The Department of Infrastructure has just released consultation papers on Vehicle Emissions which looks at the introduction of Euro VI emissions systems.

The consultation papers can be viewed at the Ministerial Forum on Vehicle Emissions page and comments on these papers will be open until 26 February 2021.

The Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) looks at three options:

  1. Business as usual (stick with Euro V)
  2. Implement a voluntary standard
  3. Increase the mandatory standard to Euro VI

The RIS concludes that implementing Euro VI for all newly approved heavy vehicle models manufactured from 1 July 2027 and for all new heavy vehicles manufactured from 1 July 2028,  would result in $5 billion in net benefits out to 2050.

The RIS seeks feedback from stakeholders on the RIS before going to Government for a decision.
