Champion apprentices reunite at Supercars GC500

It was worth the wait for 2021 National Apprentice Challenge champions, Luke Kneebone of Webster Trucks in Tasmania and Sam Allan of Ballarat Isuzu.

The two represented HVIA’s Southern Region in the National Apprentice Challenge staged alongside the Brisbane Truck Show in May 2021.

With COVID putting paid to a key part of their prize last year, their experience finally came around on the weekend when they were hosted by the show’s Platinum Partners NTI and Truck Assist.

Luke and Sam enjoyed some great corporate hospitality over the weekend but were probably more in their element hanging around all the action on pit lane.

Last year’s entire 2021 Apprentice Challenge was a hard-fought affair, with only one point separating Luke and Sam from their rivals from the West, to take the National Apprentice Challenge trophy.

The National Apprentice Challenge was staged in the South Bank Piazza in front of hundreds of school students who attended the Brisbane Truck Show on an HVIA Schools to Industry tour, learning about career opportunities across the heavy vehicle industry.

In 2023 attendance at the event is set to grow again, with competitors set to take test their skills on new Western Star trucks, and prizes supplied by new HVIA Principal Partner Wurth Australia.
