HVIA advises members that additional Australian Design Rule (ADR) requirements covering braking systems come into effect in early 2025.
They include ADR 35/07 (Commercial Vehicle Brake Systems), which will apply to all NB and NC category vehicles from February 1, 2025; and ADR 97/00 (Advanced Emergency Braking for Omnibuses, and Medium and Heavy Goods Vehicles), which will apply to all NB and NC vehicles from February 1, 2025.
NB vehicles are defined as Medium Goods Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) from 3.5 tonnes to 12 tonnes. NC vehicles are defined as Heavy Goods Vehicles with a GVM exceeding 12 tonnes.
The full list of ADR definitions and vehicle categories is available here.
The Federal Department of Infrastructure recommends that Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) holders who may be affected by this change should vary their approvals by providing evidence of compliance ahead of time, before the new ADRs come into effect.
