HVIA Members Charge Up Energy Expo

HVIA members were out in force to add spark to the All Energy Australia expo held in Melbourne in late October, and HVIA tech experts Rachel Michaud and Adam Ritzinger were on hand to share in the buzz.

Go EV, which specialise in the supply and installation of EV charging infrastructure for the public and heavy vehicle fleets, had a range of technology options on display including megawatt charging systems.

A wholly Australian-owned company, Go EV is providing the hardware and charging expertise for several local high-profile heavy vehicle and bus decarbonisation projects.

Managing Director Mark Lampard took the time to explain the latest technology advancements and how they are changing operational considerations and reducing total cost of ownership for battery electric truck initiatives.

Truck manufacturers including Fuso and Windrose showcased the hardware that sits at the other end of the charging cable

Heavy vehicle considerations were also a hot topic at the JET Charge exhibition stand. The team at JET Charge has a long history of providing charging solutions to passenger vehicle manufacturers, and now work with trucking fleet operators to deliver high-capacity, reliable heavy vehicle charging systems, such as the network installed at Team Global Express’ depot in Bungarribee, Sydney.

Adam and Rachel were pleased to see truck manufacturers presenting the hardware that sits at the other end of the charging cable. Daimler Truck had a Fuso eCanter parked in prime position right near the Hall 1 entrance, while the Windrose heavy-duty battery electric prime mover soaked up the sunshine by the river outside.

Romesh Rodrigo, Daimler Trucks’ Head of Homologation and Regulatory Affairs, noted the eCanter was launched in 2020 as Australia’s first all-electric light truck, and has since been successfully deployed in several fleet decarbonisation projects including Australia Post, Linfox, DB Schenker and others.

Comparatively much newer to the Australian market, the Windrose prime mover is undergoing local trials in a diverse range of applications, including recently for national carrier Toll Group and Bluescope steel in New South Wales.
