Last week, HVIA’s Chief Technical Officer Adam Ritzinger and Board Director Robert Smedley were amongst around 50 lucky guests from Australia hosted by German trailer axle, suspension, and brake manufacturer BPW at their headquarters in Wiehl, Germany.
Adam and Robert took the opportunity to meet BPW’s head of Engineering and Product Development, Hans Werner Kopplow, to discuss BPW’s electric axle solutions, and future developments in electric powered trailers.
“The development of a regulatory pathway for electric trailers featuring axles that provide motive power is a key part of HVIA’s advocacy program in Australia”, said Adam Ritzinger. “In that program, it is crucial for us to understand our member’s position on these technologies, so that we can seek the right regulatory settings to drive local uptake”.
Adam and Rob also heard about BPW’s energy recuperation axle, which offers compelling benefits for the refrigerated trailer fleet, and disucssed regulatory developments regarding recuperation and powered axles for the European Union, and a wide range of associated technical opportunities and challenges.
Adam and Rob also met future BPW Transpec Australia Managing Director Max Guerini, and later joined the Australian contingent for a tour of BPW’s manufacturing facilities, highlighting the company’s exceptional dedication, manufacturing innovation and quality.
